HIGH SCHOOL MINISTRY
Our High School ministries are at the beginning of an exciting new chapter in 2018-2019! We’re going to use this next year to take a close look at our history, our strengths, and goals for High School ministry as we discern where God might be taking us and what our next moves should be in the longer term.
As we look to what God has in store for High School ministries, it does not mean we are on hiatus this year. Far from it! We plan to use the powerful existing small group structures we already have in place in Elementary and Middle School as a template for continuing small groups ministry in to High School. We will also provide fresh Sunday morning opportunities, and expanded summer mission/adventure trips for this group.
Various small groups, various times, various places
Keep connected with your small group on a regular basis at Breakfast Club! Breakfast Club is a casual program where existing small groups set their own meeting place and schedule to regularly get together. Some groups may choose to meet before school at a local Starbucks or restaurant once a week, some once a month—whatever fits best. The power of Breakfast Club is the opportunity to continue connecting with your friends and small group leader during High School. Several Sunday evenings throughout the year, we will schedule a gathering time at church for all participating Breakfast Club groups to reconnect for an informal fellowship and worship time. We plan to offer some regularly scheduled service opportunities for our High School groups as well.
Sunday Donuts and Discussion
10:30 am in the Youth Center
Take the opportunity to slow down, eat donuts, and check in with your friends at “Donuts and Discussion” each Sunday. We’ll talk about various real-world subjects but mostly provide a drop-in time to reconnect at church.
Each summer will have a main event scheduled that rotates through a specific type of ministry emphasis. Service, relationship building, leadership development, and accompaniment have been identified as key values for all of these experiences. Each trip will include a shared ministry team to help plan, recruit, execute, and lead alongside staff. The plan:
- 2019: Mission in the Mountains – Flathead Lake and Lutheran Bible Camp
- 2020: International Mission Experience (TBD)
- 2021: ELCA Youth Gathering (in Minneapolis)
Specific dates are still to be announced.
Along with this rotating schedule of main mission trip, we’re planning on offering local and regional camps and retreats for service learning and leadership-building.
