The mission of theTrinity Concert Series is to share God’s great gift of music with the congregation and the community for inspiration, education, and the renewal of the spirit. The Trinity Worship Center, with its excellent acoustics, is a wonderful place to hear a concert. All concerts are open to Trinity members and to the community. The MetropolitanSymphony Orchestra Sun., Oct. 14 – 4 p.m.The MSO opens its 25th season with Stravinsky’s outrageous orchestration of Happy Birthday as a prelude to Motown Metal, Michael Daugherty’s soulful, high-octane evocation of Detroit. Four horn players from the Minnesota Orchestra join the celebration and display their solo virtuosity in Schumann’s dazzling Concertpiece. The program concludes with Dvorák’s dark and powerful Symphony #7, one of the Czech master’s most profound orchestral creations. Free and open to all.

St. Paul Chamber OrchestraThu., Nov. 8 – 8 p.m. Abbado continues his exploration of Schubert’s symphonies with the Sixth. Despite the nickname, there is nothing diminutive about it – except in comparison with Schubert’s ‘Great’ C Major. St. Croix Concert Series – Camerata Bariloche Fri., Nov. 9 – 7:30 p.m.South America’s most famous chamber orchestra, Camerata Bariloche, will perform in Stillwater as a part of its 40th anniversary tour. Music will include masterpieces by European and Latin American composers. Throughout its history, Camerata Bariloche has received numerous awards including the Platinum Konex Prize, which was awarded to the group as the best chamber ensemble in the history of Argentina. Hymn Festival With Guest Artist – Aaron David Miller Sat., Nov. 17 – 7 p.m.Led by the Temple Choir, with much congregational participation, this will be celebration of the Church Year using the new Evangelical Lutheran Worship book. Guest artist Aaron David Miller is known as one of the finest organ improvisers in the country, having won numerous international awards and given concerts across the country. In addition to many performance prizes, Dr. Miller was the recipient of the 2004 Hellenikon Idyllion Prize for Composition in Athens, Greece. Free and open to all.
Vocal EssenceSat., Dec. 1 – 8 p.m. An old-fashioned American Christmas celebration, overflowing with beloved Christmas carols from the countries of Minnesota’s early settlers—Poland, Sweden, Norway, Germany, France, the Ukraine and others. Favorites like Lo How a Rose E’er Blooming and Carol of the Bells will be perfomed by the VocalEssence Chorus and Ensemble Singers with string orchestra, conducted by Philip Brunelle. The Rose Ensemble – And Glory Shone Around: An Early American Christmas Sun., Dec. 23 – 3 p.m.Escape from the mayhem of the modern holiday with the simple joy of songs from a time when the voice was an instrument of everyday celebration. A refreshingly different holiday event, this concert features Appalachian & Acadian folk songs, colonial carols, Shaker hymns and 18th-century California mission music. With roots in the folk traditions of France, Spain & the British Isles, these songs were the simplest and most universal expression of faith from the voices that shaped our history. St. Paul Chamber Orchestra – J.S. Bach: Brandenburg Concerto No. 1 in F Fri., March 27 – 8 p.m.Contrast is the rule here as the 18th century and music from our own time meet head on. Bach is the presiding spirit, and his influence is felt in every work. Sierra’s Folias is a worldly, witty and colorful piece.
